Here’s your community calendar for Tuesday, August 30th, 2016, brought to you by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club, meeting every Thursday at noon at Mi Casita in Carbondale. Rotary, service above self.

  • The Glenwood Springs Pool hosts its Tuesday evening Sunset Sounds concert series tonight from 6 to 9 with singer songwriter Vid Weathermax featured this week.

  • At Heather’s Savory Pies and Tapas Bar in Basalt, Damian Smith and Terry Bannon play at 7.

  • The Crystal Theatre in Carbondale screens Captain Fantastic starring Viggo Mortensen as an eccentric father who raises his kids off-the-grid and celebrates Noam Chomsky Day. The comedy-drama starts at 7:30.

  • Newly minted pop star Zella Day hits the stage at Belly Up in Aspen tonight with 888 opening. Under 18 fans must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 8.

  • The Honey Dewdrops are back in Carbondale tonight at Steve’s Guitars. Steve says this very talented touring couple have been coming to the shop for years to make some gorgeous original music for us. They love to visit Carbondale and Steve’s music room. Show at 8:30.

  • And at 9, Karaoke with Sandman kicks off for the night at K Seas Wing House in Glenwood.

Gavin became one of the youngest station managers in public radio on February 1, 2017. He is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
