  • The Carbondale Rec Center is hosting a blood drive in front of the building today. The St. Mary's Grand Junction Bloodmobile will be here 11:30am to 2:30pm. Photo ID is required.

  • At 4:30, the Aspen Center for Physics hosts their Cafe Series, a family-friendly discussion series prior to their regular lectures. Then at 5:30 the Aspen Center for Physics offers a lecture on Confronting the Invisible Universe featuring frequent guest, MIT professor Jesse Thaler.

  • Hakan and Anne Thornstrom from Sweden take over Element 47 for a one-night only, five-course dinner at the Little Nell at 6.

  • Smokin Joe and Zoe play Sage Bar in Snowmass Village at 6.

  • Josefina Mendez, Mark Johnson and Tim Fox play Heather’s in Basat at 7.

  • Marble Distilling offers trivia night at 7 for teams of up to 6 people.

Looking ahead…

  • Aspen chefs compete for the best chicken wings in town at the Great Chicken Wing Throwdown on Thursday, March 23rd on the Sundeck at Aspen Mountain. It’s a benefit for Lift Up, Feed My Sheep, Stepping Stones and the Aspen Homeless Shelter. Entertainment by Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and DJ Dylan. Tickets are at liftup.org.

  • We met our membership drive goal of $70,000 on Friday. KDNK’s Thank You party is Thursday, March 23rd from 5-8 pm at Roaring Fork Beer Company with live music by Frank Martin and Pearl & Wood.

Gavin became one of the youngest station managers in public radio on February 1, 2017. He is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
