USFS Veteran Puts This Year's Fire Season in PerspectiveJune 21, 2012
38-year forest service veteran Pat Thrasher was called out of retirement this week to help address this year's dangerous wildfire season. The White River National Forest announced Tuesday that stage 2 fire restrictions would go into effect Friday. According to the forest service, 2002 was the last time these restrictions were enacted and conditions in some areas are even worse now than the devastating fire season that spawned the Coal Seam fire 10 years ago.
KDNK's Eric Skalac spoke to Thrasher in advance of the new restrictions, and found out about the strategy for dealing with tourists that may not be aware of the increased fire danger and restrictions.
