State Geologist On Oil Shale ViabilitySeptember 25, 2012
Early this year, the Bureau of Land Management published a draft Environmental Impact Statement and amendments for opening lands in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming to tar sand and oil shale extraction. The new plan reduced an earlier 2008 allocation of almost 2 and a half million acres.
Unsurprisingly, the plan was controversial on all sides. For the last few years, a handful of oil companies have tried hard to prove that oil shale is a viable energy source, using test plots on public land in Colorado to experiment.
Today on NRG with MG, Colorado State Geologist Vince Matthews is back to talk with KDNK's Marilyn Gleason about oil shale and its relatives further down the the resource pyramid.
