'Tis the season to not give illegal pets as giftDecember 19, 2013
Caring for an exotic pet is nothing like caring for a dog or a housecat. Their behavior can be erratic, and bites can cause serious injury. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, these animals can transmit diseases, like salmonella, rabies, TB, and hookworm. And, sometimes pet owners will release them into the wild, which can wreak havoc on native species. But, how do Coloradans know which animals are considered exotic by state wildlife regulators and which ones are legal to own? KDNK's Amy Hadden Marsh spoke with CPW's Mark Caddy to find out.
