Job Description:

In a full-time salaried position, the News Director is responsible for the overall news programming on KDNK.  The News Director also runs the news department and is responsible for identifying news issues in the local community, monitoring other media sources, assigning stories to reporters and broadcasting news. This position reports to the General Manager.

Essential News Duties:

·      Gather information and develop perspectives about news subjects through research, interviews, observation, and experience

·      Select material most pertinent to presentation, and organize this material into appropriate format

·      Prepare local/regional news segments

·      Record and/or edit news stories, interviews, and features for broadcast

·      Meet deadlines and be responsible for completing assigned duties on time

·      Provide up to the minute emergency news coverage when needed

·      Provide live updates and information during elections

·      Manage stringers and interns

·      Assist with membership drives and other fundraisers

·      Cull audio from public affairs programs for news content

·      Manage Main Street and enterprise reporting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·      Strong interest in local news and public affairs

·      Ability to prioritize tasks, practice effective time management and work independently

·      Strong verbal and writing skills

·      Ability to work with a large and diverse group of volunteers

·      On-air skills and knowledge of broadcast equipment

·      Computer skills; digital editing experience, audio, image, cms, social media
