Lucas became news director at KDNK August 1st of 2019 and was promoted to News & Program Director on May 1st of 2020. 

 


  This Thursday Garfield County hosts presentations by Summit County-based Peak Health Alliance. The non-profit health cooperative will provide information on the Peak Health program and its potential to lower health insurance premiums in Garfield County, which are some of the most expensive in the United States. Peak Health Alliance CEO Tamara Pogue explains how the program uses data to negotiate lower prices.

Pitkin County

The public comment period for the Penny Hot Springs management plan closes this Friday. KDNK’s Lucas Turner spoke to Planning and Outreach Manager for Pitkin County Open Space and Trails Lindsey Utter about some of the items currently listed in the plan, and how you can submit comments before the deadline.

  Last week, news of escalating tensions with Iran dominated headlines and online discourse. But the day-to-day lives of most remained the same. In the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys, temperatures dropped, snow fell, and traffic lined up in all the usual spots.

  A new study by media and analysis firm Corporate Knights reveals that Colorado's Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA) lost over 1.7 billion in retirement savings since 2009 by continuing to invest in fossil fuels. Climate activists hope the new data could convince PERA's Board of Trustees to take divestment action.

Sarah Johnson is the director of the Youth Water Leadership Program, the group that organizes the event. She spoke about what makes this year’s summit stand out.

Colorado Department of Agriculture

The Colorado Department of Agriculture annually publishes the Colorado Food and Agriculture Gift Guide, an online directory about products made in the state. KDNKs Lucas Turner spoke with Colorado Agriculture marketing specialist Wendy White to find out more.

For the last 4 years, a group called Carbondale Homeless Assistance has been making efforts to help the homeless population in the area. Lynn Kirchner started the group and took some time to tell KDNK about their approach.

  This week US Senators Michael Bennet, Cory Gardner, and 37 other Senators asked the House and Senate Appropriations Committee for increased election security funding ahead of the 2020 election. This action comes after the Colorado County Clerks Association, which represents all 64 counties in the state, sent a letter urging the Senate to increase funding to address ‘critical vulnerabilities’ in election systems.
