Raleigh Burleigh was raised in the sweet backwaters of Satank and attended the Carbondale Community School then Roaring Fork High School. The Carbondale Rotary Club sponsored him as a youth ambassador to Chile for a year before his graduation in 2011. Raleigh then attended Colorado Mountain College, building his associate degree first online from California, then across the Roaring Fork Valley and finally at the Leadville campus. He studied International Affairs and Journalism at the University of Colorado, Boulder then applied those studies traveling throughout South America for the following year. Having returned to Carbondale to recollect himself, Raleigh acquired an internship with KDNK News which led to the opportunity to serve his community as News Director. After briefly returning to South America in early 2019, Raleigh Burleigh is now drawing deeper into the rich soils of this confluence as Program Director at KDNK.

Glenwood Canyon Brewpub


Glenwood Canyon Brewpub hosts Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 21, directly behind the Brewpub along Blake Avenue between 7th and 8th streets from noon ‘til 8pm with live polka music, specialty beers and a kids' zone sponsored by Renew Roaring Fork. Raleigh Burleigh spoke with MC Jenetta Howell to learn more about what to expect.


Aspen Film Executive Director Susan Wrubel spoke with KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh on Express Yourself about the upcoming 40th Anniversary Filmfest, a week of film screenings and panel discussions beginning on September 23rd. Films show at the Wheeler Opera House, Isis Theatre and the Crystal Theatre in Carbondale.

On Friday, September 21, The Launchpad in Carbondale hosts The Salon curated by Alya Howe. Performers include a filmmaker, dancers, and a comedian. Alya stopped by Express Yourself with playwright Cassidy Willey to share details about this and a partnership with Aspen Words, bringing poetry to youth at KDNK.

Frank King


Comedian Frank King presents at Glenwood Springs Branch Library on September 17th for the Post Independent’s annual Longevity Project. The event includes appetizers and drinks at 5pm with a panel discussion at 6pm and Frank King at 7pm. The theme for this year’s Longevity Project is “Striking a Conversation: Mental Health for All Ages.”

Musicians Harper Powell, Gillian Grogan and Natalie Spears stopped by KDNK's studios to preview Ladies in the Round at Steve's Guitars, which also features Olivia Pevec. The show is on September 6th at 8pm.

Pneumatic Arts

Acrobats Blair Aued and Jordan Tribble of Pneumatic Arts spend their summers in the Roaring Fork Valley training and teaching trapeze. During the winters, they perform around the country and the world. Blair and Jordan swung by Express Yourself to share their passion for trapeze and to preview Connected Roots, a short film that premiers online on November 3rd.


In 2017, over 1,000 Coloradans died from opioid overdose. Medical professionals are now gaining insight from their communities to address this ongoing crisis. Locally, a coalition is forming around a federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration. Jarid Rollins, a licensed clinical social worker doing therapy services for Midvalley Family Practice, comments on this endeavor.

Alyssa Richman

Alyssa Richman is a professional bowler and has won gold medals for the 1500 meter race even though she was born with cerebral palsy. She has learned not to jump to conclusions regarding judging others who have a disability different from hers. It is a lesson she shares with us all. She has learned to live confidently.

Eleanor E. Yates was born in Denver, Colorado and has traveled the world painting murals. Ella is now channeling her creative positivity into creating Spirit-Up! It's a tabletop game that aims to inspire happiness and fun in its players. The community is invited to play a demo at the Third Street Center in the Senior Matters room on Thursday at 5pm, or Friday through Monday from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

Jarid Rollins

A local coalition is forming around how to address opioid addiction and substance abuse in our communities. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh spoke with Jarid Rollins of Midvalley Family Practice about this initiative. The first public meeting is on Wednesday, August 28 at Carbondale Library at 6pm.



The Crystal Valley Environmental Protection Association, founded in 1972, sports the legacy of stopping a ski resort from being developed in Marble and more recently ending the West Divide Project, two dams holding conditional water rights that would have flooded Redstone and other parts of the valley. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh spoke with John Armstrong, the organization’s president, about current issues of interest and upcoming opportunities for involvement. CVEPA's annual meeting, open to the public, is on August 24th at Propaganda Pies in Redstone at 5pm.

Pew Charitable Trusts


On June 29th, the Bureau of Land Management released its final draft resource management plan for the Uncompahgre Field Office, encompassing nearly 900,000 acres of public lands across six Colorado counties. The Colorado Department of Natural Resources has since submitted a formal letter of protest, claiming that the draft plan does not adequately balance wildlife protection with energy extraction. According to Ken Rait, Project Director for Pew Charitable Trusts, this plan is one of six released in the past five months that demonstrate a disturbing trend in public lands administration.

Orpheus Music and Arts Festival is in its second year this weekend in Glenwood Springs. Ethan Michael and Nick Hanna of Alreach stopped by Express Yourself to play original music and talk about the festival and its origins. Alreach performs on Saturday, August 10 at 3pm in Two Rivers Park.

Artist Madeline Wiener is carving a sculpture, commissioned by the City of Glenwood Springs, to be installed next to the pedestrian bridge on the north landing. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh visited MARBLE/marble to chat with Madeline and local sculptors Lucas Leone and Rex Branson.

Missy Anderson

Missy Anderson is a wife, mother and friend. She has cortical myoclonus which causes body jerks. The mobility and accessibility that we may take for granted are huge challenges for her. She was not born with this condition and now understands the barriers that exist for those who have mobility challenges and wants to help us understand the world from that perspective.

Eugenia Bone


Eugenia Bone is a journalist, author, chef and mushroom enthusiast. Discovering the joys of mushroom hunting in Colorado led to her involvement with the New York Mycological Society as its former president. Eugenia has written many books on the topic and will present this weekend at the Mushroom and Wild Foods Festival in Eagle and in Paonia on August 6th.

Uche Ogbuji

Mountain Fair's featured poet Uche Ogbuji performed his poem "Salute to the First Nations" on Saturday, July 27. Uche joined Raleigh Burleigh for a quick interview on the following day.

Bureau of Land Management


On June 28, the Bureau of Land Management released their final draft Resource Management Plan for the Uncompahgre Field Office. The document represents years of work and would guide land-use planning decisions on public lands in southwest Colorado for decades to come.
