Community Calendar for September 26th

Here’s your community calendar for Monday, September 26th, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club, meeting every Thursday at noon at Mi Casita in Carbondale. Rotary, service above self.

  • This week is Banned Books Week. You can join in the annual celebration of the freedom to read by supporting local bookstores, checking out your local library, and challenging censorship of diverse authors or uncomfortable subjects. More info at BannedBooksWeek.org.

  • Tonight is the last Silt Farmers Market of the season at Silt Historical Park. The community-driven market kicks of at 6 with live music featuring Red Dirt River Band. Bring your own chair.

  • Biju's Little Curry Shop, based on the Front Range, take overs Element 47 in Aspen once again for dinner at 6. Chef Biju Thomas offers a 3-course menu of authentic Indian food for 1 night only.

  • At 6:30 the Third Street Center in Carbondale hosts the monthly Plant-Based Whole Foods Potluck. Bring a heart-healthy dish to share. Questions? Call Ardis Hoffman at 303-305-9664.

Looking ahead…

  • The KDNK Record Sale is an annual tradition during Potato Day, Carbondale’s oldest community celebration. This Saturday October 1st, KDNK will be next to the stage in Sopris Park, selling vinyl, CDs and stereo equipment from 9AM to 3. Proceeds benefit KDNK. Bulk buys encouraged.

 
 

Gavin became one of the youngest station managers in public radio on February 1, 2017. He is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
