Garfield County Updates Public Health Order as More COVID-19 Cases are Confirmed

Garfield County received notification Friday regarding two individuals that tested positive for COVID-19. Garfield County now has 5 total cases of the illness. The county also issued an updated public health order, stating:

"Garfield County will follow all Public Health Orders issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and all Executive Orders issued by the Governor of Colorado related to the COVID-19 virus unless otherwise excepted or ordered."

Both of the additional cases reported Friday are male and residents of Garfield County. A press release from the county says one is in his 50’s and the other is in his 60’s. It also says the two cases are not related and did not have contact with one another.

Both are now recovering in home isolation and contact tracing investigations are underway to help reduce the potential spread of the virus.

The health department is aware of numerous additional tests that have been sent to state and private labs from medical providers across the valley and is anticipating additional COVID-19 cases to come in.

Garfield County officials community spread is occurring and that strict and prompt social distancing measures must be practiced by all members of the community to keep from overloading available medical systems.
