Helping Men Seek and Get Mental Health Care

Mental health for men is the focus of this year's Let's Talk Colorado Campaign. It's a coalition of more than 20 health organizations with this year's emphasis on the unique challenges men face with mental health. Mark Duggan takes a closer look.

Professional mental health experts say when people open up about their feelings of depression or other issues, don't try to fix the problem or change the subject, but listen patiently and actively.

Six million men across the U.S. admit to experiencing depression and men are almost four times as likely to die from suicide as women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Of the nearly 1,200 Coloradans who died from suicide in 2017 - the most recent year such data is available - 75 percent, or almost 900, were men.
