The Town of Carbondale begins reviewing the proposed 2017 budget at tonight’s trustees meeting at Town Hall at 6 o’clock.

Roaring Fork Conservancy is one of the largest watershed organizations in Colorado. The 501c3 nonprofit was founded in 1996 so this year is their 20th anniversary. I visited with Watershed Action Director Heather Lewin at their office in Basalt yesterday to learn about their 2016 Voters Guide to Water Issues in the Roaring Fork Watershed, now available around the region.

The top two candidates in Colorado’s U.S. Senate race will meet in Denver this evening for their only televised debate of this election. The Libertarian and Green Party candidates were not invited. Rocky Mountain Community Radio reporter Bente Birkeland asked a few key questions of incumbent Democrat Michael Bennet and his opponent Republican El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn ahead of the event.

Tomorrow the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association, the Post Independent and others present the Issues and Answers Forum at Glenwood Springs City Hall, starting at 5 o’clock. State Senator Randy Baumgardner and challenger Emily Tracy will appear. Garfield County Commissioner John Martin and his opponent John Acha have confirmed as well. Plus 9th Judicial District Attorney Sherry Caloia and her opponents Jeff Cheney and Chip McCrory will be on hand. Republican Congressman Scott Tipton won’t attend but Democrat Gail Schwartz will be present. In addition to talking about the nine statewide ballot initiatives, there will be discussion of Glenwood ballot questions 2-H and 2-I, the acquisitions and improvements sales tax extension.

The Aspen-Sopris Ranger District of the White River National Forest seeks comments on proposed plans for vegetation management in the upper Fryingpan watershed in Eagle and Pitkin counties. The Forest Service is completing an environmental assessment that will be used to determine whether to prepare an environmental impact statement or not. The Ranger District will host an informational meeting about the project Oct. 26 at the Carbondale Public Library from 5:30-7 p.m.

Kids First and the City of Aspen provide a financial aid program to help defray childcare costs for working families. The deadline for new applications is coming up November 1st, with assistance to begin December 1st. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
