Local Newscast for October 21st

KDNK's Local Newscast airs weekday mornings at 6:41 and 7:41 during Morning Edition.

Last night, KDNK broadcast live from the mayoral candidate forum at the Third Street Center, in partnership with the Sopris Sun and Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. We will bring you highlights on Monday, and the entire audio is now posted.

KDNK’s Amy Hadden Marsh has this report of last night’s Carbondale Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

This year’s proposed Amendment 71 - or “Raise the Bar” - asks voters to decide whether making amendments to the state constitution should be more difficult. But, a wide array of groups oppose it, as Kelsey Ray reports for the Colorado Independent. For this week’s News Brief, Amy Hadden Marsh talks to Kelsey Ray about the amendment, why so many different groups oppose it, why the oil and gas industry supports it, and why it may be raising the bar a little too high.

Sometimes when news happens around the state, our partners in the Rocky Mountain Community Radio network share updates. This one’s a doozy. Peterson Air Force Base officials say 150 thousand gallons of water containing Perfluorinated Compounds were mistakenly discharged into the sewer system earlier this month. Our partner station KRCC's Jake Brownell has more.

Highway 133 is closed in both directions between the McClure Pass summit and Paonia Reservoir due to a massive rockslide early Wednesday morning. At least 1000 vehicles a day use the highway in that area according to CDOT. Traffic is being diverted at the Colbran turn-off, around mile marker 36 and at Kebler Pass, at mile marker 24. The main alternate route is I-70 to Highway 50 to 133. The Post Independent is reporting there is a chance the road will be open Saturday but over 100 tons of debris are on the road and barrier.
