The Lost Solar Fire in the Flat Tops Wilderness was active Thursday with smoke visible from Garfield, Rio Blanco, and Eagle Counties. Shifting wind has caused smoke to drift east and more is possible over the next few days. Smoke could also settle in low valleys overnight, but should clear by mid-morning. The blaze is now estimated at 2,000 acres and is burning well within the management boundary. This fire is being managed with a “confine and contain” strategy due to its remote location and natural ignition. This means the fire is managed to take its natural course within the ecosystem, which will benefit big game habitat.
