Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center has been selected as the 2020 Colorado Communication Center of the Year.
In June the center became the second in the nation to offer backcountry users 911 access via satellite devices and the first in the state to recognize dispatchers as first responders.
The center developed its own training program that has now been implemented at other communication centers across Colorado. Last year Pitkin County dispatchers also received six lifesaving awards and assisted with a healthy baby delivery over the phone.
