Here’s your community calendar for Saturday, October 7, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club. Rotary: Service above self. For today's events, like Aspen Film Fest in Carbondale and Aspen,follow the headline.

  • KDNK sells records in Sopris Park from 10 to 2.

  • Carbondale celebrates Potato Days from 10:30 to 2.

  • Cohere Gathering, a community camp-out and harvest celebration, begins in Paonia at noon. More info here.

  • Aspen Film Fest continues with Julian Schnabel: A Private Portrait at 2:30, Whose Streets? At 5:30, and The Upside at 8:15 at Isis Theatre and All The Wild Horses at 5:30 and The Florida Project at 7:30 at the Crystal Theatre. A full list of films is available here.

  • Magician Doc Murdock performs at The Temporary at 3.

  • The Launchpad hosts an Art Heist and Speakeasy, beginning at 5:30. Tickets and information are at here.

  • Glenwood Vaudeville Revue presents Little Shop of Horrors at 6:30.

  • Thunder River Theatre Company presents Dead Man’s Cell Phone at 7:30.

  • The Carbondale Community School hosts a community contra dance with Wooden Nickel String Band at 7:30.

  • The Ellyn Rucker Jazz Trio performs at The Temporary at 8.

  • Dean Macgraw, Jim Hawkins and Mateo Sandate perform at Steve’s Guitars at 8.

Looking ahead…

  • On Sunday, October 8 and Monday, October 9 there will be a commemoration ceremony in Salida to celebrate the renaming of Chipeta Mountain. More information is available here.

  • On Monday, Alpine Legal Services hosts Senior Law Day at Eagle County Building in El Jebel at 9.

Raleigh Burleigh was raised in the historic floodplanes of Satank. The Carbondale Rotary Club sponsored him as a youth ambassador to Chile the year before his graduation from Roaring Fork High School. He studied International Affairs and Journalism at the University of Colorado, Boulder then applied those studies traveling throughout South America the following year. Returning to Carbondale thereafter, Raleigh acquired an internship with KDNK News which led to the opportunity to serve as News Director from 2017 to 2019. After another trip to South America in early 2019, Raleigh Burleigh drew deeper into the confluence as Program Director at KDNK. Raleigh now serves on KDNK's board of directors and as editor of Carbondale's weekly newspaper, The Sopris Sun.
