Happy Techie New Year from Matt, Louie, and Donna. Get geeky!

In the November election, 26 more communities in Colorado voted for local control of broadband infrastructure. So that means that voters in 29 of Colorado’s 64 counties, plus 66 municipalities are determined to support their local leaders in addressing the need for affordable high speed Internet connectivity. Within KDNK’s listening area, voters in Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, New Castle, Parachute, Silt and Garfield County all approved broadband ballot items in 2016. KDNK news director Gavin Dahl asked Ken Fellman, former mayor of Arvada and the foremost communications attorney representing local governments in our state, to talk about the significance of this growing resistance to the restrictions on broadband development backed by companies like Comcast and CenturyLink.

Louie and Matt take it to the geeky limits on this week's show.

On this year’s ballot, voters in Carbondale, Silt, Parachute and Garfield County will decide whether or not to opt out of restrictions on local government control over high speed Internet. Blake Mobley is IT Director for Rio Blanco County. Blake talks with Matt McBrayer and Gavin Dahl about Rio Blanco’s own ballot initiative, and the county’s decision to invest in infrastructure that is now delivering gigabit fiber to homes and businesses in Rangely and Meeker.
