Town of Carbondale

In partnership with Carbondale Arts, The Town of Carbondale has been awarded a 35,000 dollar Mini Local Park and Outdoor Recreation grant from the Board of Great Outdoors Colorado. The funds will be used to build the Youth Art Park, the third and final park along the town’s one-mile Rio Grande ARTway. KDNK’s Lucas Turner has more.

 

Carbondale Arts Unveils Strategic Plan

Carbondale Arts unveiled its strategic plan Monday after a year of work. It includes a revised mission statement, marketing and financial strategies, and clarification on the role of the Carbondale Creative District within Carbondale Arts. Executive Director Amy Kimberly says the new plan provides clarity and direction.

Carbondale Arts is offering $1,000 towards idea incubation or education to address mental health with creative expression. The recipient will also receive mentorship from artist Wewer Keohane and plan a project on Rosybelle, the Mobile Maker Bus. Applications are due on December 20th.

At the Colorado Creative Industries summit in Salida last week, Amy Kimberly of Carbondale Arts and the Carbondale Creative District was honored with the Governor's Creative Leadership Award. After an extended ovation, she called Carbondale her muse and humbly shared the spotlight with staff members Laura Stover, Brian Colley, Staci Dickerson, Kat Rich, and Rachael Manning. She ended the speech by raising her fist and declaring, "Together, we are a force!"

Carbondale’s 47th annual Mountain Fair begins tomorrow, July 27, and continues through Sunday. KDNK will be live-broadcasting the celebration from Sopris Park all weekend.

In December, the Town of Carbondale contracted Artspace, a nonprofit real estate developer based in Minneapolis, to explore the feasibility of creating new, sustainably affordable spaces for arts and culture in Carbondale. Earlier this month, ArtSpace revealed their findings, including recommended locations. KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh has more. The 38-page report is available for review here.

She says: "We feel these airwaves are important, they connect us, they get information out there that's important, they allow creativity and freedom. There are so many kids that have grown up here on KDNK who are absolutely some of my most favorite adults.  They are the ones that are holding the spirit of the community for the future. I really think that KDNK is a huge part of that. We hope people keep this station thriving."
