Ascendigo Autism Services

Ascendigo Autism Services has been working with Roaring Fork Valley clients from across the autism spectrum for 15 years. In the process, they've become one of the largest employers in Carbondale. KDNK spoke with Ascendigo CEO Peter Bell about the organization's history and where he'd like to see them go in the future. They're also putting on their largest annual event, Ascendigo Blue Aspen, this Saturday (February 16) at Hotel Jerome.

Ascendigo Autism Services


For many years, autism was considered a childhood disorder. Today, organizations like Ascendigo recognize autism as a lifelong condition that is best supported by community. Journalists John Donvan and Caren Zucker, co-authors of In a Different Key: The Story of Autism, joined KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh to discuss these topics with Ascendigo president and CEO Peter Bell. Carbondale’s Rio Grande ArtWAY, a collaboration between many community organizations, celebrated the first official installation yesterday. Ascendigo Autism Services together with Scavenger Industries built a bench in memory of Alex DeMeo. Raleigh Burleigh has this report. The 46th Annual Carbondale Mountain Fair begins Friday. This year, Ascendigo Autism Services with Scavenger Industries invites attendees to construct an art bench to be installed along the Rio Grande ARTway. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh spoke with President and CEO Peter Bell to learn more.

This Saturday at 9am in Miner's Park, the Carbondale Tree Board will plant four new trees to celebrate Arbor Day, including a tree sponsored by Ascendigo to honor National Autism Awareness Month. Raleigh Burleigh reports.
