The star of the documentary is Gertrude Bell, an Englishwoman who was a contemporary of T.E. Lawrence, and who was instrumental in establishing the boundaries of the modern state of Iraq after the First World War. She was also a kingmaker and founded the Iraq Museum in Baghdad. But, the world didn't know about Gertrude Bell; she's been left out of the history books...until now. KDNK's Amy Hadden Marsh spoke with Oelbaurm by phone from New York.  Zeva Oelbaum will be in Aspen next week to talk about her film. Click here for the complete Aspen FilmFest schedule.

One of the films screening in both Aspen and Carbondale is a documentary called “All the Wild Horses”, which screens at the Crystal Sunday, October 8, at 5:30 PM. It's about the longest horse race in the world, 1,000 kilometers across Mongolia on Mongolian wild horses. It's based on Genghis Khan – yes, that Genghis Khan's pony express, the way mail was delivered a very long time ago. But, the race itself is in its 9th year. KDNK's Amy Hadden Marsh talked to the director, Ivo Marloh by phone from the UK about the film and how it's a dream come true. Click here for the complete Aspen FilmFest schedule.

Susan Wrubel has only been on the job for three weeks, but the new Executive Director of Aspen Film gave us a succinct overview of this year's festival.

Rachel Chanoff is Director of Programming for Aspen Filmfest, underway now through Sunday. I caught up with her yesterday by phone in between screenings to get a feel for the 38th annual Filmfest. The Crystal Theatre in Carbondale screens festival films Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
