During the first AZYEP news team public affairs show of the 2019-2020 school year, The Andy Zanca News Team spoke with KDNK News Director Lucas Turner about his experience in radio and what he appreciates about KDNK. 

During Dimensions in Diversity on the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program, Steve Mills of Gay For Good Rocky Mountains talks with Sheri Smith and Tracy Altmaier of PFLAG Roaring Fork Valley. PFLAG's mission is to build on foundation of loving families, united with LGTBQ people and allies who support one another and to education communities. Support for this program comes from AspenOUT. 

The Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program launches a new public affairs show in collaboration with the Family Resource Center of the Roaring Fork School District called, "Healthy is the New Happy." Students in the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program August radio workshop talk all about Carbondale with Andrea Stewart of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce and Amy Kimberly of Carbondale Arts

In the first piece of a two part series, teen interns from the Garfield County Personal Responsibility and Education Program (PREP) discuss the progression of self-harm and the correlation to substance abuse. Learn more about PREP here. This program is a collaboration with the Aspen Hope Center and Project We Care Colorado.


Roaring Fork Valley students traveled to El Paso, Texas to participate in a Collaborative Leadership Program between the Aspen Chapel and the World Leadership School. The program immersed students in the Mexican/American Texas culture where they partnered with local NGOs to learn about what takes place at the border. The students will share more about their experience at the Aspen Chapel on Sunday, August 18th at 9:30 a.m.

The Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program July radio summer workshop spent three days learning about broadcasting and sustainability. As a culminating activity to their learning, students discuss sustainability with Colorado Mountain College Assistant Dean of Instruction, Adrian Fielder.

The Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program talks with Steve Mills and Janet Gordon from the Rocky Mountain chapter of Gay For Good about LGBTQ+ resources and a community BBQ. The Access After School Boost Camp takes place each summer at Rifle Middle School. The program includes activities designed to promote literacy, science skills, math skills, physical fitness, and creativity for students entering 1st to 5th grades. Fifth grade students visited KDNK to read orignial poem.

The Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program spoke with participants of the valley's annual alternative dance and poetry slam which celebrates youth LGBTQ+ diversity. The Word Dance takes place in April and is hosted by the Basalt High School Gay Straight Alliance and sponsored by AspenOUT.

AZYEP Summer Camp Celebrates Community Art

Students in the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program June Summer Camp explored the importance of community art during a three day radio workshop. Particiapants visited the Carbondale Clay Center and Carbondale Arts to talk with community members about art in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program partners with the Buddy Program to share the experiences of an adult mentor and youth mentee. The Buddy Program is a local organization that has been serving youth in the Roaring Fork Valley for over 40 years through one-on-one and group experiential mentoring. More information.
