Garfield County Clerk and Recorder Jean Alberico released the unofficial final vote tally Friday. Incumbent County Commissioner for District 2 John Martin squeaked by with a 501-vote win, defeating Democratic challenger Beatriz Soto. KDNK’s Amy Hadden Marsh reached Soto for her response to the results.

Republican incumbents are leading in the Garfield County Commissioner Races. KDNK’s Amy Hadden Marsh has more from the Democratic challengers.

KDNK's Before the Ballot forum on Thursday, Oct. 8, featuring the Garfield County Commissioners race, included audience questions. One was directed to incumbents John Martin and Mike Samson about why the Board cut funding to Planned Parenthood in 2015. She recently co-founded Voces Unidas, a network of Latino and Latina leaders in Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle counties. Beatriz talks about traveling to the US with her parents as a two year old and adapting to new places. She also talks about work with Wilderness Workshop, Voces Unidas, and the impact of COVID-19 on the valley's Latinos.
