Colorado Succeeds

In recognition of the Senior Capstones Program started in 2016, Roaring Fork School District has been selected as one of three finalists for the Excellence In Education Innovation Award from Colorado Succeeds. KDNK News Director Lucas Turner spoke with Capstone Coordinator Tom Penzel to learn more about the capstone program and the upcoming awards ceremony in Denver.

Basalt High School

Carla Soto y Gabriela Magana Silva, de Basalt High School, hablan sobre el proyecto final de la escuela secundaria, que implica un viaje a El Paso, Texas, para aprender sobre la cultura mexicana / estadounidense en la frontera. Este junio participarán en la inmersión en la frontera a través del Programa de Liderazgo Colaborativo en colaboración con la Escuela de Liderazgo Mundial y la Capilla de Aspen.

Basalt High School

Carla Soto and Gabriela Magana Silva, seniors from Basalt High School discuss their high school capstone project which entails a trip to El Paso, Texas to learn about the Mexican/American culture at the border. This June they will participate in border immersion through the Collaborative Leadership Program in partnership with the World Leadership School and the Aspen Chapel.   

Through a Roaring Fork School District Capstone Project, Basalt High School senior Julius Vasquez organized free counseling for students and staff once a month. Here Vasquez talks about the project with community expert Craig Farnum.   

Bridges High School seniors Estrella Rojo Mancinas and Yami Mata worked with community expert and Executive Director of Stepping Stones, Jonathan Greener to better understand and explore counseling as a career path through their Roaring Fork School District Capstone Project. The seniors worked to encourage positive self esteem in younger students at Carbondale Middle School.

Bridges High School Capstone Coordinator Suzanne Fitzgearld and Nannette Weinhold, Coordinator from Basalt High School discuss the Roaring Fork High School Capstone Project. Capstone is a graduation requirement for all seniors in RFSD. 

RFHS student Tyler Treadway and community expert Marc Bruell discuss the process of writing music which was performed by the RFHS Jazz Band. The project is part of a Roaring Fork School District gradution Capstone Project requirement. 

RFHS senior Tyler Treadway debutes three songs on KDNK with youth DJ Alan Apodaca during the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program.
