The City of Glenwood Springs and Valley View Hospital hosted an online presentation to address some community and health issues on Friday, March 20, with Mayor Jonathan Godes and Dr. Ben Peery of Valley View Hospital.

The City of Glenwood Springs hosts its first virtual town hall meeting on Tuesday March 10th at 6pm. The meeting will feature information about upcoming infrastructure projects, and updates about the COVID 19 virus. To continue our series on citizen engagement, KDNK’s Lucas Turner speaks with Mayor of Glenwood Springs Jonathan Godes about how to effectively communicate with elected officials, good and bad effects of social media, and the crucial role citizens play in opposing the Mid-Continent Limestone Quarry expansion.

Fourth grade students at Glenwood Springs Elementary School completed an in-depth study of the Roaring Fork Watershed. They learned about taking care of the watershed, water conservation and how people impact the watershed. 

The City of Glenwood Springs took one more step last week in opposition to the proposed expansion of the Mid-Continent Limestone Quarry. KDNK’s Amy Hadden Marsh has this report.

Like many cities across the world, Glenwood Springs is challenged to adjust to the rapidly growing industry of short-term vacation rentals. A recent moratorium has stalled new applications while the City asks the community to weigh-in via this official survey. KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh has more.

As reported yesterday by KDNK’s Amy Hadden Marsh, Rocky Mountain Resource Management officially submitted a proposal to expand the Limestone Quarry near Glenwood Springs. If the Bureau of Land Management considers the expansion proposal complete then it will be posted for public review and eventually a public comment period will begin under the National Environmental Policy Act. Members of the public are already talking about possible impacts of the expansion, including fourth and fifth graders at Two Rivers Community School.
