Rio Grande ARTway Arch Raised Over Carbondale Bike Path

Across from the Carbondale Park & Ride, a large arch has been raised above the bike path. For the next month the arch will be “blooming” with unique pieces created by nearly 50 different local artists. To hear more about the project, Raleigh Burleigh biked over to The Roaring Forge to talk with metal workers and project leaders Olivia Pevec and Joe Burleigh.

Carbondale Public Arts Commission

Carbondale will soon see a new round of sculptures prop up around town. Sarah Moore joins Megan Tackett on Express Yourself to talk about the Carbondale Public Arts Commission and Art aRound Town.

Gabrielle Louise is joined by Jamie Payne on guitar, performing a preview on Express Yourself for her show at Steve's Guitars on May 24 at 8:30.

Artists Savanna LaBauve, Stephanie Seguin and Eden Keil currently have work on display at The Launchpad's R2 Gallery. Raleigh Burleigh dropped by for another edition of From The Gallery on Express Yourself. Exhibits Linear // Planar and Yellow for Frances run through May 31 at The Launchpad.

The 11th annual Bonedale Bike Week kicks off at Batch on Friday, May 17. Host Megan Tackett is joined by organizer Tracy Wilson and Carbondale Parks and Recreation Director Eric Brendlinger to talk about the other fun events.

Organizer Peter Kolbenschlag gives details about the North Fork Community Fair and Solutions Expo in Paonia Town Park. The event is in its 5th year and was previously called the Solar Fair and Permaculture Expo.

Hippocrates Docs

Peter Goldstein, President of Hippocrates Docs, shares with Megan Tackett about My Health My Priority, a 12-week program designed to help folks transition to a plant based lifestyle. Davi Nikent presents My Health My Priority beginning June 4th.

 

Bridget Law and Katie Gray join Megan Tackett on Express Yourself to talk about their upcoming Empowered Hearts retreat on May 17, 18 and 19. The duo also presents and performs for a COVENTURE event on Thursday May 16 in Carbondale.

Local nonprofit VOICES premiers The Women's Voices Project this weekend. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh met with Executive Director Renee Prince and performer Gabriella Alvarez-Espinoza about the concept. The Women’s Voices Project performs on May 10, 11 and 12 at the Thunder River Theatre at 7pm.

KDNK’s Megan Tackett and Raleigh Burleigh speak to local herbalist Sheridan Semple. Sheridan is offering a series of classes about our native plants and their medicinal uses in the Roaring Fork Valley. The first class is at True Nature on at May 11 at 2:30 with focus on evergreens.

Steve's Guitars presents Ladies in the Round with Natalie Spears and Ellie Barber of Pearl and Wood, as well as Lizzy Plotkin and Gillian Grogan. The show is on Friday, May 3rd at 8:30. The ladies graced KDNK with a preview during Express Yourself.

The Glenwood Springs Arts Council celebrates International Jazz Day with a concert at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue on Tuesday, April 30 at 6pm. Alice Bedard-Voorhees shared details with Megan Tackett on Express Yourself.

The Sopris Sun

Renowned pianist Robin Sutherland performs a benefit concert for The Sopris Sun on August 12 at the Redstone Castle. He spoke with Megan Tackett on Express Yourself about his local ties and fondness for music.

5Point Adventure Film Festival

Local filmmakers Tom Zuccareno and Tyler Wilkinson-Ray dropped by Express Yourself to share about their ongoing involvement with Carbondale's 5Point Adventure Film Festival.

In recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Shannon Meyer, executive director of RESPONSE, appeared on Express Yourself to encourage always asking for consent in relationships.

Prior to playing a show at Steve's Guitars on April 19, local musician M. Kelly Blue stopped by Express Yourself to share about her new CD and personal miracle.

National Parks Development

 

KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh joins artists Will Gurley and Bobby Martin at The Launchpad where their work is on display. Both exhibits play with the notion of preservation and encroaching development. The artists host a special closing reception in conjunction with 5Point Film on April 26 from 5 to 6pm. Will Gurley also speaks about “The Art of Business” the following day at The Thunder River Theatre. The full schedule of community events related to 5Point is available here.

Drew Dudley

Nicky Foust of Mountain Valley Developmental Services dropped by Express Yourself to speak with KDNK's Gavin Dahl about "Leadership that Matters," an author-talk with Drew Dudley, co-presented by Roaring Fork Leadership. The event is at 5:30 on May 2 at Morgridge Commons in Glenwood Springs.

Aspen Ute Foundation

Aspen Ute Foundation's annual pow wow will be at Aspen High School this year with a new name and more activities than ever. Aspen Ute Foundation Founder Deanne Vitrac-Kessler, coordinator Anuk Bald Eagle, board member Karin Gieske and volunteer Bill Hildebrand joined Raleigh Burleigh on Express Yourself to talk about the Shining Mountains Pow Wow, at Aspen high School from 1pm to 10pm on April 13. Grand Entry is at 5pm.

Thunder River Theatre Company

Thunder River Theatre presents Bluenose, a pirate comedy for kids and adults, on April 12 and 19 at 6:30pm and on April 13 and 20 at 2pm. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh spoke with cast and crew about the show.

Coventure

On April 12, beginning with a panel discussion from 3:30 to 5:30, six local companies will pitch projects to venture capital investors from around Colorado. The main event is at 7pm and is open to the community. Jonathan Stokely of Coventure stopped by Express Yourself to share details about the event.

Joining host Megan Tackett by phone, Dean Mahoney shares about the harmonious New York-band Upstate ahead of their weekend performance at Steve's Guitars.

They joined Express Yourself with Davi Nikent Director Rita Marsh to preview Carbondale's First Friday Spring Into Wellness, to share about Dr. Feinsinger's new book Enjoy Optimal Health, and talk about Peter Goldstein's Just 1 Thing 4 Health initiative. Dr. Joel Fuhrman will be in Carbondale on April 6th for a talk at the Third Street Center at 7:30.

Aspen Shortsfest

Landon Zakheim, Aspen Shortsfest 2019 Director of Programming, shares with Express Yourself about this year's films and the selection process. The festival includes showings at The Wheeler Opera House in Aspen and the Crystal Theatre in Carbondale from April 2 through April 7.
