Glenwood Springs Protesters Decry USPS Budget Cuts

On Saturday, local residents gathered outside the Glenwood Springs Post Office to protest budget cuts recently proposed by the new US Postmaster General. KDNK’s Halle Zander reports.

Every summer in Carbondale, the High School High Scholar program, also known as (HS)2, hosts 75 first-generation high school students for 5 weeks of rigorous classes and exciting outdoor adventures. The Andy Zanca Youth Empowement Program presents local community experts and students sharing their opinions and experience using restorative justice (R.J.) to rectify harm and solve conflicts among youth. Jonathan Greener of Stepping Stones and Karen Barbie of YouthZone speak about the impacts of implementing R.J. in the valley.

Carbondale Community School shares the fruits of their community garden by turning a learning space into a Compassion Project. Extra food produced will be donated to LiftUp while the kids continue to grow as much as possible this summer.

As the Class of 2020 finishes up the school year, seniors are completing graduation requirements that include a capstone project. Roaring Fork High School students Diego Valdez, Lucy Meade, Rex Hamilton, and Lance Weidemann present music as a culminating project. Here they discuss their musical process and showcase their work.

AntiViral Part 3 Keeps the Poetry Flowing

AntiViral Part 3 features the voices of curator Alya Howe, as well as poets Chris Ryerson, Nicole B. Hagg and Halle Zander, with additional poems by Lynn Unger and Kitty O'Meara.

Kylie Orf, a senior at Roaring Fork High School shares her experience living with a congenital upper limb reduction with the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program's Halle Zander. After many years of remaining silent about her physical difference, she opens up to enlighten our community about respect and how she lives without limits. 

The Young Curators of the Roaring Fork put on a show at the Aspen Art Museum every April, but with COVID-19 closures, this batch of students had to get creative. Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program's Halle Zander checks in with the students to see how they've adapted to this new reality and changes to the exhibit. What We Are Made Of will open with a virtual public reception on Saturday, April 18, from 3–4 p.m. More info here.
