A tougher set of winter traction rules passed by state lawmakers this year didn’t stop some drivers from getting stuck and snarling traffic on Interstate 70 for several hours Wednesday and Thursday.

Highway crews continue to remove large boulders and fix road damage. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, travelers should expect periodic short closures of the interstate through the weekend.

has reopened Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon in both directions. Two eastbound lanes are open, and one westbound lane.

Motorists experienced a complete closure of Interstate 70 for over three hours yesterday for police to make an arrest. KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh has this update.
