Andrew Roberts-Gray and Cate Tallmadge

Artists Julia March Crocetto and Cate Tallmadge both explore the present moment with paint and fabric. The results, touching on triumph and change, are currently on display at The Launchpad. On Express Yourself, host Megan Tackett is joined by local artist Brad Reed Nelson of Board by Design. This year, the Bauhaus school celebrates its 100th year. In honor of this revolution in design, Carbondale Arts presents Bauhaus Seen a group exhibition of furniture designers curated by Brad, plus paintings by Richard Carter and Dave Durrance.  

Stephanie Seguin

Artists Savanna LaBauve, Stephanie Seguin and Eden Keil currently have work on display at The Launchpad's R2 Gallery. Raleigh Burleigh dropped by for another edition of From The Gallery on Express Yourself. Exhibits Linear // Planar and Yellow for Frances run through May 31 at The Launchpad.

Claudio Pawl

On today's show, Sopris Sun reporter Megan Tackett interviews Claudia Pawl, managing director for Mezcla Socials. Mezcla Socials is a new latin-style dance group that meets at The Launchpad on Thursdays at 7:30 and ocassionally invites teachers for special workshops.

National Parks Development

 

KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh joins artists Will Gurley and Bobby Martin at The Launchpad where their work is on display. Both exhibits play with the notion of preservation and encroaching development. The artists host a special closing reception in conjunction with 5Point Film on April 26 from 5 to 6pm. Will Gurley also speaks about “The Art of Business” the following day at The Thunder River Theatre. The full schedule of community events related to 5Point is available here.

Colombian lawyer, activist and filmmaker Diana Ojeda is carrying an invitation from the oldest Wiwa population in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia to the Lakota Tribe in South Dakota. She is guided by an indigenous prophesy that transforms five hundred years of oppression into an opportunity for global re-unification. A teaser for Guardians of the Earth, the film that she is creating to document this momentous occasion, will be shown at the Glenwood Springs Library on Wednesday, June 6, at 4pm and at the Launchpad in Carbondale on Friday, June 9, at 7pm.

Lisa Singer pays another visit to Express Yourself to talk about her new work, featured in the Valley Visual Art Show and another group show at the Red Brick Center for the Arts in Aspen. 

Brandon McDuffey, who wrote, directed and edited a new short film, along with his Carbondale childhood friend Ian Morrison, the cinematographer on the project, about Silverline Valentine, a project that features the efforts of many young locals.

With a questing artistic ethic, and a very involved process for making art using found materials you and I would call trash, Benjamin Timpson is a committed artist who can't stop making objects. Benjamin is having a moment right now, with a solo show in Glenwood Springs at CMC's ArtShare Gallery, and pieces in three separate group shows at the Launchpad in Carbondale, CMC in Aspen, and the Red Brick Arts Center in Aspen.

We hear all about the first Salon of the New Year from four participants, the Rassle the Castle race in Redstone and the 34th annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada.

The curator of the Salon series Alya Howe is joined by trumpeter Tim Fox, dancer Io, and USA Tango Champion Sean Ericson to describe the year's first Salon at the Launchpad.
