North Fork Valley Hosts Rise For Climate Action

On Saturday, September 8, a crowd gathered in Paonia Town Park in coordination with Rise For Climate actions across the globe. KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh has this report.

Commenting on the Bureau of Land Management’s environmental assessment for the remaining North Fork parcels ends Tuesday, September  11. Rally for the Valley is on Sunday, September 16, at Delicious Orchards in Hotchkiss from 4 to 7pm. Carpooling is encouraged.

Per-Fume of Prayer: Reclaiming Shock and Sorrow

The Bureau of Land Management’s December oil and gas lease sale includes nearly a quarter of a million acres in Colorado with nearly 8,000 in the North Fork Valley’s watershed and around Paonia Reservoir. Meanwhile, an internal memo has reduced opportunities for public participation in the process. North Fork Valley Community Rights Advocates has drafted a Community Bill of Rights for Paonia, Colorado. KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh spoke with the organization’s board chair Lisa Niermann at the 4th annual Solar Fair and Permaculture Expo this past weekend. Solidarity was the theme of a gathering of residents and officials from both sides of McClure’s Pass Saturday. KDNK’s Amy Hadden Marsh has this report.

 

An active opponent of oil and gas is being sued by the company that had BLM leases canceled in the Thompson Divide. The defendant claims that this is a SLAPP suit, a strategic lawsuit against public participation, intended to silence opponents of oil and gas development in the North Fork Valley. Economic Impact of Natural Gas Development on Delta County

The North Fork Mancos Master Development Plan proposes to drill 38 wells upstream from Paonia, CO. According to one report, this project would result in an economic loss for Delta County.
