Thanks to Post Independent writer Kyle Mills for covering the KDNK Halloween Dance Party with DJ Spooky at Third Street Center on Halloween night in the paper. It's great to get positive coverage of our hard work. Advance ticket sales have ended, but tickets are available at the door, starting at 6.

The adults-only benefit event features a music video mixtape curated by KDNK djs along with games and prizes thanks to Roots RX from 6-8pm, costume contest from 8-9pm with celebrity judges and prizes from Glenwood Caverns, Sopris Liquor & Wine, and Carbondale Beer Works, and headliner DJ Spooky from 9-10:30pm.

Also starting at 6, Wild Style food truck will serve Lamb Samurai Voodoo Tacos, Pickled Avocado Tacos, and Bison and Green Chile Sloppy Joes. You can wash them down with beer from Ska Brewing, Denver Beer Co, and Roaring Fork Beer, plus Marble Mules, various red wines, and Sparkling Blood Orange Watermelon Wine on ice.

Don't miss this party!

Longevity Project

For the past few months, The Post Independent has explored the trend towards an older population in Garfield County. The Longevity Project concludes on Monday with a panel discussion at Morgridge Commons. For this week’s news brief, KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh is joined by Post Independent editor John Stroud.

Chelsea Self

Today, June 18, is the recommended last day to mail primary ballots, although voters have until June 26th to vote in person or drop their ballots off at a 24-hour drop-off box.  KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh spoke with Matthew Bennett, one of the newest reporters to join the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, about his recent coverage of the Third Congressional District race.

Ryan Summerlin

On this week’s news brief our guest is Ryan Summerlin, reporter for the Post Independent. His recent article "Colorado River Faces Flood of Challenges" was a reportback on the Annual Water Seminar in Grand Junction hosted by the Colorado River District. This year's keynote speaker was Abrahm Lustgarten of ProPublica, who KDNK interviewed last month about his series Killing the Colorado.

The KDNK news department hosted a special Journalist Roundtable live broadcast on Sunday September 11th. Our guests in the studio were Brent Gardner-Smith from Aspen Journalism, Lynn Burton from The Sopris Sun and Ryan Hoffman from the Rifle Citizen-Telegram and the Post-Independent. We talked about the challenges we face in meeting the information needs of the valley, including a lack of Spanish speakers in our newsrooms, and a simple lack of funding and time to do investigative reporting. And we talked about the stories that need more coverage, for example we cover drug crime but rarely discuss treatment. Thanks again to our guests!
