Raising a Reader Aspen to Parachute

Soon after COVID-19 shut down schools, local school districts started delivering regular meals to locations from Aspen to Parachute. But the shutdown meant many students also lost access to story books that were being provided every week by local non-profit "Raising A Reader." The organization adapted to start including story books with Roaring Fork School District's free meals program. KDNK's Lucas Turner spoke with Raising a Reader Executive Director Cindy Blachly to learn more.

On this month's edition of United Way Cares, host Traci Gurley-Tomashosky talks to Rick Blauvelt, Executive Director of Raising a Reader Aspen to Parachute. The organization works to foster early literacy skills among young children, so they develop a love of books and become successful readers. United Way Cares airs monthly on KDNK and is hosted by Gurley-Tomashosky, Executive Director of United Way Battlement to the Bells. Hear archived episodes here.
