So, to get a unique perspective on the issue, KDNK’s Lucas Turner took a special trip on an Ecoflight.

Glenwood Springs Mayor Jonathan Godes, City Council member Rick Voorhees, and City Manager Deb Figuora asked the New Castle Town Council Tuesday to stand with other local municipalities opposing the expansion of the Mid-Continent Limestone Quarry and to support Garfield County’s right to regulate the mine. Basalt Town Council and Carbondale trustees Tuesday night voted unanimously to oppose the Mid-Continent Limestone Quarry expansion in Glenwood Springs. KDNK’s Lucas Turner attended the Carbondale meeting.

Glenwood Springs mayor Pro-tem Shelley Kaup, Councilor Paula Stepp, and City Manager Debra Figueroa presented to Carbondale trustees prior to the vote.

About 200 people gathered at Glenwood Springs Middle School Monday night for a hearing on Rocky Mountain Resources county permit violations at the limestone quarry above Glenwood. KDNK’s Amy Hadden Marsh reports on citizen concerns and the decision by Garfield County Commissioners to give RMR until June 1 to come into compliance.
