Steve's Guitars

It was a long in-studio, but it was magic from beginning to end. You could tell Dan enjoyed it too. He told a wonderful story about giving Wilt Chamberlain tennis lessons, and he had some incisive things to say about Bob Dylan, children, and the importance of radio to him. He also played a new song, Regent Street, as well as Baby Bye Bye and Take the Guns Away. Dan plays Steve's Guitars tonight.

Musicians Harper Powell, Gillian Grogan and Natalie Spears stopped by KDNK's studios to preview Ladies in the Round at Steve's Guitars, which also features Olivia Pevec. The show is on September 6th at 8pm.

Lipbone Redding stopped by KDNK to see Kat Rich during Jamburger & Fries. Lipbone hosts OmPrana Sonic Meditation at True Nature on August 20 at 6pm then plays at Steve's Guitars on August 21.

Kelly Hunt

Aug 2, 2019

Kelly Hunt plays her century-old banjo, named Ira, in a spare but evocative way. But her singing is rich with innuendo due to her superb phrasing. Kelly, from Kansas City, is touring behind the release of her debut CD Even the Sparrow, and that tour brings her to Steve's Guitars Sunday night. KDNK's Luke Nestler spoke with Kelly about her singing and her songwriting and how it came together on her new CD.

Tony Kamel

Prior to playing a sold-out show at Steve's Guitars, Tony Kamel of Wood & Wire joined Raleigh Burleigh on Express Yourself to talk about their grammy-nominated album North of Despair.

This band is sort of a bluegrass super-group from North Carolina. They visited B Sides on KDNK before their two Sunday gigs in Carbondale in Sopris Park and Steve's Guitars. They talked about their new release dropping next month and played some songs from that live in the studio.

There's no shortage of girl/boy duos in roots music. It might even be a genre. Mandolin Orange is one of the better ones. They wowed a full house at Steve's Guitars on February 17, 2016. Hot on the heels of a new documentary about George Stranahan, here is an inspiring chat we had back in 2013 upon the publication of his book "The Predicament of Innocents." And then Miss Tess and the Talkbacks play three songs live in-studio before their gig at Steve's Guitars. They played a couple older tunes, Little Lola and Moonshiner sandwiched a new tune The Moon Is an Ashtray.

Four engaging Aussies talk about their new film, The Bikes of Wrath, which received its world premiere at the 5Point Film Festival. And Seattle's best country band, Western Centuries, plays in the studio before their gig at Steve's Guitars.
