Garfield County

Garfield County Commissioners voted Monday to raise the tobacco purchasing age to 21, joining other counties and municipalities in the state.

Commissioner John Martin opposed the measure. Commissioners Mike Samson and Tom Jankovsky voted in favor. All three raised concerns over the county’s ability to enforce new tobacco laws.

In a letter to state legislators, Commissioners ask for statewide tobacco regulations instead of the new system that gives control to local governments.
