Solar Rollers is a non-profit high school energy education program where student teams design, build and race high-performance, solar-powered R.C. cars. In May, the race comes back to the Roaring Fork Valley. KDNK’s Lucas Turner has more.

Last week Solar Rollers hosted an event to bring together community members and promote the upcoming Solar Roller’s race on May 16th at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale.

In 2013 Solar Rollers ran their first race in Golden, where 4 teams raced solar power RC Cars. Since that time the organization has grown, receiving sponsorship from electric car manufacturer Tesla, and even expanding to host a race in Dubai. Last year in Colorado, 33 teams from all over the state raced their solar cars.

This year, thanks in part to a grant from Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE), Solar Rollers is coming back to the valley.
