New reporting from the Aspen Times purports to show that Soviet-born billionaire Vladislav Doronin still held a third of a Moscow-based capital firm when he sued the newspaper for defamation in mid-April.

That would mean he still owned a third of that firm when he purchased the 1-A parcel on Aspen Mountain for more than $76 million dollars on March 4th.

His camp has repeatedly said that Doronin has no investments in Russia, and hasn’t conducted business there since approximately 2014. But it wasn’t until the day after he sued the Aspen Times for characterizing him as a Russian oligarch that he moved his ownership of Moscow-based Capital Group Development to his mother.

The Aspen Times obtained documents from a Miami court case showing the transfer.
