Telluride-based extreme ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson. The highly decorated North Face athlete is missing in Nepal after falling on Monday during a ski descent of Manaslu, the world's 8th highest peak. Numerous avalanches took place on Monday, killing at least one and partially burying at least a dozen others. Much is still unknown about how Nelson's accident occurred.

Also, ancient cave formations in Wyoming may help climate scientists better map the future of a changing planet. And, Rifle police shoot a man during a domestic disturbance on Saturday, while fired New Castle Police Chief Tony Pagni was arraigned on Tuesday for allegedly threatening his neighbor with a loaded assault rifle in late July.
