Between 4 million and 5 million people ride the New York City subway on an average day. The system has 468 subway stations, most of them underground, and 3,000 conductors. As part of a series of stories celebrating the centennial of New York City subway, NPR's Margot Adler follows conductor Sheila Taylor, who's been keeping things on track for riders for 17 years.
