Here’s your community calendar for Thursday, September 22nd, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club, meeting every Thursday at noon at Mi Casita in Carbondale. Rotary, service above self.  

  • Today is Day 2 of the Aspen Filmfest at the Wheeler Opera House. More info at Aspenfilm.org.

  • State Senator Randy Baumgarten speaks at the Garfield County Republican luncheon at 809 Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs today at noon. The senator reportedly declined to participate in tonight’s Public Lands candidate forum in Carbondale.

  • Colorado Wild Public Lands, the Roaring Fork Conservancy and Wilderness Workshop invite you to attend a candidate forum about public lands in Carbondale at the Third Street Center. The event starts with a reception at 5:45. Candidates will speak between 6:30 and 8. Confirmed speakers include Gail Schwartz, running for the US Congress; Incumbents state legislators Bob Rankin, Diane Mitsch Bush and Millie Hamner, as well as Democratic state senate candidate Emily Tracy; plus Garfield, Pitkin, and Eagle County commissioner candidates. The event will be moderated by Post Independent editor and publisher Randy Essex.

  • Aspen Center for Environmental Studies hosts a membership potluck dinner from 5:30 to 8:30 at the Catto Center at Toklat. ACES will provide libations. More info at AspenNature.org.

  • Uptown Strutters play Heather’s in Basalt starting at 6:30.

  • Kyle Jones mans the piano at The Riviers Supper Club in Glenwood Springs at 7.

  • Country singer Michael Martin Murphey plays the Ute Theater in Rifle at 7:30.

  • And Belly Up Aspen hosts March Fourth Marching Band tonight at 10.

Looking ahead…

  • The KDNK Record Sale is an annual tradition during Potato Day, Carbondale’s oldest community celebration. On Saturday October 1st, KDNK will be next to the stage in Sopris Park, selling vinyl, CDs and stereo equipment from 9AM to 3. Proceeds benefit KDNK. Bulk buys encouraged.
