  • This week is Banned Books Week. You can join in the annual celebration of the freedom to read by supporting local bookstores, checking out your local library, and challenging censorship of diverse authors or uncomfortable subjects. More info at BannedBooksWeek.org.

  • Crack in the Wall Gallery in Silt hosts Last Fridays starting at 5. An Art Reception featuring over 30 local artists and their work also includes food and music.

  • From 5:30 to 7 the Launchpad in Carbondale hosts a conversation with artists currently on exhibition. Patricia Ringer creates large abstract paintings. Laura G. Thorne is a metal sculptor.

  • Glenwood Vaudeville Revue starts at 6, with Dinner Theatre available.

  • Heather’s Savory Pies and Tapas Bar in Basalt has LP Herd at 6:30.

  • At 7 Brad Vierheller mans the piano at the Riviera Supper Club in Glenwood.

  • Thunder River Theatre opens its new season tonight with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at 7:30.

  • Todd Johnson and Breaking Blues play Glenwood Springs Brew Garden at 8:30.

  • Valle Musico play Rivers Restaurant in Glenwood Springs from 8:30 to 11:30.

  • Belly Up Aspen hosts The Record Company and Amasa Hines with doors at 9.

  • At 9:30 The Habits play the Black Nugget in Carbondale.

  • And today is the deadline to get signed up for the Emma Schoolhouse Christmas Bazaar happening the second week of November. Call DD for details at 923-3347.

  • The KDNK Record Sale is an annual tradition during Potato Day, Carbondale’s oldest community celebration. Tomorrow, Saturday October 1st, KDNK will be next to the stage in Sopris Park, selling vinyl, CDs and stereo equipment from 9AM to 3. Proceeds benefit KDNK.
