Dance Initiative hosts a Lecture and Demonstration with Artists In Residence Rashaun Mitchell + Silas Riener at the Launchpad in Carbondale from 6 to 7. Mitchell & Riener, former company members of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, sit at the forefront of cutting edge dance research in New York City while also representing the strong historic influences that Cunningham had on contemporary dance in the United States.
The organic pumpkin patch at Osage Gardens, on River Frontage Road between New Castle and Silt, is open from 11AM to 6PM. Kids activities include a hay maze and hay mountain.
The New Castle Gardens Pumpkin Patch on Peach Valley Road in New Castle is open from 10 to 4:30 with the Pumpkin-ator that launches pumpkins over 200 feet. Other activites include hay rides, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin basketball and hillbilly golf.
Basalt Library hosts Girls Who Code at 3:45. The coding club for girls grades 6 through 12 is about learning how to use computer science to make music, design games and create animations. Registration required at basaltlibrary.org.
Basalt Town Council meets tonight at 6 for a regular meeting of the trustees. You can tune in live on GrassrootsTV.org if you can’t attend in person.

KDNK presents our inaugural Songwriters Showcase tonight at 7pm here at the station, 76 south 2nd Street in Carbondale. Hosted by musical group, The Authentic Wild West, you can bring your own instrument and original music to share.

Also on Thursday, KDNK will broadcast the Carbondale mayoral forum live from Third Street Center, in partnership with the Carondale Chamer of Commerce and The Sopris Sun. We have three candidates to choose from, current mayor pro tem Dan Richardson, current trustee Katrina Byars and former trustee Ed Cortes. The event kicks off at 5:30 and runs until 7. Today is the deadline for the public to submit topics for consideration by writing to chamber@carbondale.com with the subject line: "Mayoral Candidate's Forum topic."
