Community Calendar for November 5, 2016

The Community Calendar on KDNK is underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club. Rotary is holding a raffle with all proceeds going to dental care for local kids in need. Prizes include a 3-day trip to Denver with hotel and Broncos tickets. For more information, contact Pat Pier at 987-3265.

The New Castle Cub Scouts want to help the town break a world record by collecting the most food donated by a community in 24 hours. Tomorrow,  they will go to every house in New Castle and drop off a donation bag.  Then, next Saturday, November 12, they will return to gather the harvest. They will also accept donations for 24 hours at the New Castle City Market beginning at 1 pm on the 12th. John Harcourt has the details.

 

Laura Bartels teaches a Mindful Parenting workshop today from 1-5 at the Third Street Center.

 

The Home Brewer’s Ball takes place at River Valley Ranch barn tonight at 6. Proceeds benefit the locally-produced film “How We Grow and the non-profit, Fat City Farmers.

 

The Dressmaker screens today at 5 at the Crystal. The new comedy Don’t Think Twice screens tonight at 7:30 and Sunday at 4:30.

 

David Starbear is taking his food truck to the Standing Rock Sioux protest sight. He’s opened a Go Fund Me account for cash donations. He’s also accepting donations of non-perishable food and blankets, sleeping bags, lumber, horse feed and anything for winter camping. You can drop donations at Gina Cucina's Kitchen 1917 Dolores Way in Carbondale, at KDNK, and the Marble Distillery on Main Street. Trucks leave for North Dakota on Monday.

 

Glenwood Vaudeville Review presents Sweeney Todd tonight at 7:30 and Sunday at 2. Tickets and reservations at 945.9699.

 

If you like square-dances, waltzes, polkas, and contra dancing, you'll probably want to come to the Contra Dance tonight at the Masonic Temple across from the Post Office in Glenwood Springs. The dance starts at 7 and you don't have to have a partner.

 

LOOKING AHEAD...

Mark your calendar for December 2nd because KDNK’s annual Labor of Love auction and Holiday Bazaar is coming to the Village Smithy on Main Street in downtown Carbondale for December’s First Friday. The auction includes passes from Aspen Ski Co, tickets for Avalanche hockey, a Les Paul guitar, Hunter S Thompson artifacts, plus massages, haircuts, artwork and more. Model Mugging returns to Carbondale from November 11 through the 13th at the Third Street Center, where participants can learn self-defense skills and how to channel fear. More information is here or in this week’s Sopris Sun.
