Community Calendar for November 11th

Here’s your community calendar for Friday, November 11th. I’m Steve Cole. The Community Calendar on KDNK is underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club. Rotary is holding a raffle, with all proceeds going to dental care for local children in need. Prizes include a 3-day trip to Denver with hotel and Broncos tickets. For more information, contact Pat Pier at 987-3265.

  • Model Mugging returns to the Third Street Center today, Saturday, and Sunday. To register, you can call 970.274.1222. More information is at model mugging dot org.

  • All Veterans and Active Military Personnel are invited to swing by the Limelight Lounge in Aspen for a free pizza starting at 3 for Veterans Day.

  • The Friday Afternoon Club on the Mountain returns to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park at 4:30.
Free tram rides are available with Cellar Door performing live covers of folk, rock and reggae.

  • Art Walk Basalt for Second Friday is from 5 to 7, featuring 9 unique galleries.

  • The Art Base Annex in Basalt kicks off a new exhibition at 5 called Conflux, showcasing artists Stanley Bell, Andy Storey and Jeff Stevens. Conflux juxtaposes urban and rural landscapes in a blend that’s a little rebellious, as the work combines painting, wheat pasting, photography, spray paint, stencils, screen prints, and other media.

  • Meanwhile, the Charles J. Wyly Gallery at the Art Base presents printer and graphic designer Rick Griffith in a new exhibition that employs collage cut outs from magazines and graphic interventions in the style of Constructivism. The composition speaks to the rise of the African American middle-class. The diagrams and images form the basis of a conversation about privilege, class, and equality with humor and parody. The event is from 5 to 7.

  • Kula Yoga on Main is holding a charity yoga class on Friday, November 11th. The proceeds raised at the class will support efforts to bring yoga to people who need it most — veterans and people who are incarcerated. The class is for all skill levels and begins at 6:15pm. More information at kulayogaonmain.com.

  • It could be your last chance to see the comedy film Don’t Think Twice in Carbondale as it shows at the Crystal Theatre at 5:30. Meanwhile, the drama film Queen of Katwe opens tonight with a screening at 7:30 and continues through Wednesday.

  • From 7:30 to 8:30 at the Launchpad, Dance Initiative presents HEaRD, original choreography by Alya Howe. The work is inspired by movements of a “herd” and “herd mentality" and will be performed by local dance artists with spoken word elements as part of the overall sound score.

  • Heather’s in Basalt has Chris Bank and Mark Johnson at 7:30.

  • The Logan Brothers play Kan Pai Sushi in Glenwood at 7:30.

  • And “dancegrass” act Whitewater Ramble play Belly Up Aspen at 10.

Looking ahead…

  • The Carbondale Community Oven invites everyone to bring bread or pizza to the next Bread Bake this Saturday, November 12th, behind the Third Street Center. Bread goes into the oven at 1 pm. Pro tip: Bringing butter, jams or other bread toppings is never a bad idea.

  • The T Sisters have cancelled their Sunday show at Steve’s Guitars.

  • Mark your calendar for December 2nd because KDNK’s annual Labor of Love auction and Holiday Bazaar is coming to the Village Smithy on Main Street in downtown Carbondale for December’s First Friday. The auction includes ski passes, hockey tickets, guitars, restaurant gift certificates, massages, haircuts, artwork and much more. We are collecting auction items through the end of next week. Please drop cool stuff by the studio or call us at 963-0139.
