Community Calendar for November 18th

Here’s the KDNK Community Calendar for Friday, November 18th, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club. Rotary is holding a raffle with all proceeds going to dental care for local children in need. Prizes include a 3-day trip to Denver with hotel and Broncos tickets.   • Summit Canyon Mountaineering, under the clock tower in Glenwood Springs, wants your clean, reusable coats or jackets to donate to the Salvation Army. And, from November 18th to December 4th, anyone donating a coat or jacket will get a 20% discount off any new coat or jacket. But, you don’t need to buy a coat to donate one.

  • The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is ringing in the holiday season through Thursday, December 24th and needs volunteer bell-ringers. You can call 945.6976 for more information or to schedule a time to help.

  • The Anderson Ranch Art Center in Snowmass Village presents “Hand Forging for Local Artists” today from 1 to 4 PM.

  • The R2 Gallery and Artique Gift Shop at the Launchpad holds an open reception tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.

  • Lakota dancers, singers, and drummers along with the band Indigenous perform from 5 - 8 tonight at the Third Street Center. The Stand With Standing Rock concert is a fundraiser for Standing Rock Water Protectors in North Dakota.

  • Queen of Katwe returns to the Crystal tonight at 7:30.

  • Thunder River Theatre’s Consensual Improv opens tonight at 8 with the local Comedy Posse.

  • Tomorrow from noon to 3, you can adopt a pet at CARE.'s PetCo Adopt-A-Thon in Glenwood Springs. More information is at 947-9173 or coloradoanimalrescue.org.

  • Faith Lutheran Church in Carbondale offers a free community meal from 11:30 to 1:30 tomorrow and every third Saturday of the month.

  • The American foundation for Suicide Prevention hosts the International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day tomorrow from 10 AM to 1 PM at Grand River Health in Rifle. Admission is free and open to the public.

  • The Mt. Sopris Historical Society and Thompson House Museum will honor local resident Dorothea Farris on Sunday, November 20th from 3 - 5 PM at the River Valley Ranch Barn in Carbondale. Farris is receiving the 2016 Hattie Thompson Award for her contributions to the communities of the Crystal River and Roaring Fork Valleys. Please RSVP beth@mtsoprishistoricalsociety.org.

  • KDNK’s annual Labor of Love Auction and Holiday Bazaar, on December 2nd from 5 to 9 at the Village Smithy, offers ski passes, a Hot Springs Pool pass, hockey tickets, guitars, gift certificates, and more.
