William Worley went missing on the East Creek Trail in 2010. Earlier this September, a bow hunter found remains that authorities have confirmed to be human.

Dental records ultimately confirmed that the remains belonged to William Worley, who had been missing for more than twelve years after last being seen in the East Creek drainage in July 2010.

Worley’s disappearance led to a massive search at the time – and to wild rumors circulating about what may have happened to him.

The county coroner’s office says the manner of death is undetermined, but the cause of death was a gunshot to the head.

It's not yet clear if the Pitkin County Sheriff's Department will continue its own investigation into the manner of death.
