During this week’s meeting, commissioners approved a 10-thousand dollar grant for new electronic, recording and research equipment for the county’s Recording Office.
Garfield County announced the non-profit recipients of their second-quarter discretionary grants. Recipients include Glenwood Springs High Mock Trial team, Roaring Fork Youth Orchestra, Bookcliffs Council of the Arts and Humanities, Rifle’s Ute Theatre Society, the Roaring Fork Conservancy, and Glenwood Springs Middle School.
Additionally, Eagle County representatives stopped by to discuss Cottonwood Pass improvements, explicitly mentioning the necessary safety fixes such as widening the road in some places and adjustments for blind corners. Commissioners agreed on the importance of those updates, as well as improvements to be made on the Blue Hill segment of Cottonwood Pass. Support was committed to the furthering of these projects via a letter regarding federal grant funding.
Commissioners agreed on the approval of a supplemental request of $20,000 to the CSU Foundation for their Outdoor Classroom project in Rifle. Commissioners expect to be reimbursed by CSU’s funding for the project once updates on permitting are presented to CSU.
In order to build out the Garfield County Road and Bridge Department, county staff have decided to assist with facilitating new hires in gaining their Commercial Driver’s Licenses. This is due to a difficulty to find qualified candidates, and the county hopes to make the investment of helping with a CDL license with candidates who fulfill every other qualification.
