The Roaring Forks School District Board met Wednesday, May 22nd. The meeting began with brief public comment and the results of a family survey. The survey was given to parents of pre K through 12th grade students and received high rates of response. There was a significant increase of 57 percent from the 22- 23 school year. Data pointed to a higher positive perception from parents of Hispanic students than parents of white students across key categories. In terms of next steps, the district noted that it is important to maintain an appropriate level of academic rigor and keep families engaged in a meaningful way.
The board voted to approve the district's first collaborative bargaining contract between the Board of Education and the Roaring Fork Community Education Association. The contract will cover teachers and special service providers for three years and then be reopened for negotiations. The first draft of the CBC addresses topics such as salary and working conditions and will be in effect prior to the 24 -25 school year. Dr. Anna Cole's contract as superintendent was reviewed and approved. Her contract expires June 30, 2027.
There was also a motion to approve new attire standards for graduation, allowing students to wear objects of cultural and religious significance. More information can be found at rfsd.k12.co.us.
