Trustees Review Carbondale Police Budget

The Carbondale Board of Trustees met Tuesday, October 22nd. Major points of discussion included the police budget, and future Parks and Recreation projects. The proposed 2025 budget for the Carbondale Police Department is organized around two main goals, delivering exceptional service, and staffing and retention.

The CPD’s partnership with the Aspen Hope Center is expected to cost 90,000 dollars. The ongoing partnership provides 24/7 mental health services that assist officers interacting with community members in crisis. CPD’s training budget is 50,000 dollars and remains unchanged from last year. The focus for this year’s training is Community Policing and Engagement. There is emphasis on strengthening relationships particularly with the Latino community.

Budget changes from last year include an additional 8,000 dollars for police equipment, 2,000 dollars for towing, and 1000 dollar reduction for officer wellness.

The Parks and Recreation Department work plan and budget goals included several notable items such as funding for the Chacos Park design and construction, and an increase in senior programming.
