No Kings rallies the vote

Several hundred people gathered in Sayre Park on a Saturday with signs, stickers, and costumes. The rally, organized by Mountain Action Indivisible, was a nonpartisan event aimed at encouraging eligible people to vote early. It was one of over 3,000 No Kings: Vote Early events taking place across the world last weekend.

Emcee Mugsy Seldeen told the crowd, “We are coming together across races, places, and parties to demand free and democratic elections!”

Volunteers staffed voter information booths at the event, sharing information about registering to vote and the importance of voting early, signing people up to help Get Out The Vote and protect our elections, answering questions about the many ballot measures, and sharing information about serving as a non-partisan poll monitor. An interactive booth called “Young Voters Decide Elections” focused on empowering younger voters in the community to register to vote.

Some people attending the rally carried signs from "The power of the people is STRONGER than the people in power," to "No King! No ICE! No War!" and " This is not a left or right moment, it's a right or wrong moment." Bypassers driving on Grand Avenue honked horns at rally-goers who lined the roadway. People rolled down windows to yell encouraging words at sign holders who, in return, waved and cheered the drivers on. People were exclaiming, "Vote early!" down the street the whole hour and a half.

A number was shared with the crowd repeatedly for reporting any observed voter intimidation. 866-Our-VOTE sends calls and texts to the Election Protection Hotline. The Voter hotline is in operation daily from 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mountain Time. The web page 866-Our-Vote-dot-org is also stocked with election information and dates across the USA. The number is 866-687-8683.
