Crews Battle Structure Fire in Rifle Saturday, Officials Say Cause Is Unknown

Colorado River Fire Rescue was called to a structure fire at 310 W 3rd St. in Rifle on Saturday. According to a Sunday press release, the cause is still unknown. It is being investigated by the members of the Garfield County Fire Investigation Team.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavy body of fire with flames pushing vertical with an elevated smoke column being pushed vertically. A large amount of heat from the fire could be felt out on the street. An offensive attack on the main body of the fire with a master stream from one of the arriving engines was used to knock down the main body of the fire. Crews were able to locate a family pet and reunite the dog with it's family.

Five fire engines, one ambulance, a command vehicle and 19 firefighters, including mutual aid from Grand Valley Fire Protection District responded to this incident. Rifle Police Department assisted with the call along with the American Red Cross, Lift-Up, Xcel Energy, and the City of Rifle. Glenwood Springs Fire Department supplied and engine and crew to cover the New Castle Fire Station.

Colorado River Fire Rescue says the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is being investigated by the members of the Garfield County Fire Investigation Team.
